Overview: Join Dr. Dretona Maddox for a virtual session focused on supporting homeless and foster youth. Through personal storytelling, real-world case examples, and trauma-informed strategies, participants will explore the unique challenges these youth face, examine systemic barriers, and learn culturally responsive approaches that inspire actionable change.
Presenter: Dr. Dretona T. Maddox, DSW, MSW, BSN, RN-PHN, LCSW, serves as an assistant professor of Social Work at California Baptist University's College of Behavioral and Social Sciences. By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Recognize three unique challenges and lived realities of homeless youth, including pregnant and parenting teens in foster care, through personal storytelling and real-world case examples.
- Analyze two systemic barriers that contribute to youth homelessness and foster care instability, with attention to trauma, stigma, and social determinants of health.
- Apply two trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and strengths-based strategies to better support and engage homeless and foster youth in practice settings.
- Commit to at least one actionable change in their professional role that moves beyond awareness into creating impact for vulnerable youth.
