The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is the statewide coordinator for the AMBER Alert, Silver Alert, Endangered Missing Advisory, and Blue Alert. The CHP is a national leader for the application of the Wireless Emergency Alert in emergency alerts. This course will provide a brief description, capabilities, and process of the WEA. What does it mean when a WEA is activated in your area? How big of an area is activated? What are the hours a WEA can be activated? How do you deal with negative feedback? How can this program benefit your community? The focus of the discussion will be from the perspective of City, County, and Community Leaders.
By the end of this webinar, participants will develop strategies to take back to their home agencies and will be able to:
- Identify the WEA capabilities
- Determine which areas are activiated
- Understand Law Enforcement's expectation of the public response
- Clarify when and how the WEA is used
- Describe the benefits to the community
