Session Overview

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is the statewide coordinator for the AMBER Alert, Silver Alert, Endangered Missing Advisory, and Blue Alert.  The CHP is a national leader for the application of the Wireless Emergency Alert in emergency alerts.  This course will provide a brief description, capabilities, and process of the WEA.  It will also review what to expect when an alert has been activated.  The focus of the discussion will be about incorporating technology into the alert process and what agencies can expect with its use.

By the end of this webinar, participants will develop strategies to take back to their home agencies and will be able to:

  • Identify the WEA capabilities.
  • Determine if all agencies have access to the same technology.
  • Understand what information is required to contact CHP.
  • Clarify the process when calling.
  • Understand what to expect.

Presenter:

Sergeant Ed Bertola has been with the California Highway Patrol for thirteen years.  He is currently assigned to the Emergency Notification and Tactical Alert Center as a supervisor and the lead Statewide AMBER Alert Instructor.
